Hello everyone! We are doing something a little different this week than the norm. Many people have been messaging me about my top podcast recommendations so here they are! Full disclosure before reading: I am a huge true crime buff. I literally love learning and hearing about serial killers, murders, and missing people cases. With saying this, not many have the heart or interest to handle these topics so if you are one of those people, this post will not interest you. If you are one of the sadistic ones like me, then enjoy these awesome listens.
I am going to start with my absolute favorite podcast ever, Crime Junkie. This podcast is run by two girls named Ashley and Britt who dive into so many cases filled with murder, serial killers and missing people. They have over one hundred episodes so if you are a podcast feen like me, it will give you so much content and the girls are extremely engaging. The cases are seriously insane and cover from small, unknown towns to famous cases like the Lacy Peterson case. They get a 10/10 from me.
My next pick is Serial. This podcast is what single handedly got me into podcasts. The first season is about a man named Ahmed Syed, who was charged for the killing of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. This whole case is to evaluate the facts on whether or not Ahmed actually committed the crime. Many facts do not line up and the case is still ongoing and went for a retrial due to this podcast. The podcast will definitely leave you questioning if justice was truly served to the rightful person. They have two seasons of Serial, but I don't recommend the second.
Next on my list is Up and Vanished. This podcast is hosted by Payne Lindsey, who dove into the missing persons case of Tara Grinstead from Ocilla, Georgia. He visits the town and starts asking questions of her disappearance and begins getting leads the more he digs. Payne dives deeper and deeper until an insane break is made in the case. He digs further and this case has now went to trial for something a whole lot more sinister. This case keeps you on your toes and actually gives you some resolution, which you do not typically get from these true crime podcasts. There is also a second season on the missing persons case of Kristal Reisinger. This season does not have the same breaks and resolutions as season one, but I still enjoyed the case and it left me wanting more.
This next podcast is called Dirty John. This podcast is about a man who played his way into a wealthy woman's heart and almost destroyed her family. John is a handsome, fifty-something year old man who is a doctor and has it all... or does he? Aside from the fact that the mom and daughters have the most annoying voices and are so ignorant to big red flags.. I mean BIG red flags, that will make you just cringe, it is still a really good listen and they ended up making a limited series of the show on Bravo as well.
Oh Dr. Death, another hit podcast series that will just make your blood boil based off of the ignorance of the world. This one is a story about a man named Christopher Duntsch, who was convicted of gross malpractice after killing and maiming 30 something patients. This podcast doesn't just go into the complete insane actions of the doctor, but also the facilities he worked at who noticed poor practice and did not turn him in to the medical boards to stop the injury of innocent people. Being in the medical field, this one shocked me and made me extremely inquisitive of my own health care.
This podcast I really liked. To Live and Die in LA is about the disappearance from a start up actress, Adea Shabani. She had last been seen leaving her apartment with her boyfriend, Chris Spotz. This podcast is about a dark love triangle and does have a resolution. You will get to hear all of Adea and Chris' story from their start to their finish.
Man in the Window is the newest podcast that I have finished. This podcast is all about Joseph DeAngelo, also known as the Golden State Killer, who was recently captured this year and awaits trial. I will fully disclose this podcast scared the living hell out of me. Believe it or not, listening to stuff like this all the time does take a toll and for some reason, this one really bothered me. So fair warning before starting, but despite the nerving topics discussed, it was extremely interesting to hear how the Golden State Killer grew from being a "peeping tom" and turning in to such a prolific serial killer.
My last recommendation is called In the Dark. This podcast also has two seasons with the first case being the abduction of Jacob Wetterling whose case took over 27 years to solve. This case reveals how poorly law enforcement handled the abduction which led to 27 years of no answers for Jacob's family. Jacob's abduction also lead to huge sex offender laws put in place that we now follow today. This case is extremely sad, but Jacob's family has turned light into this situation to make other families aware of the dangers that lurk in this world.
Season two dives into the case of Curtis Flowers who was charged with the murders of four people from the Tardy Furniture Store. Curtis has been tried six times for a crime he claims his innocence for to this day. This case dives deep into the south where racism is still real and the prosecution team won't let Curtis free, despite his multiple overturned convictions. Both seasons are great listens and extremely interesting.
